Membership of the EAA

Announcement January 1st, 2021.

The Association of Acoustic Consultants of Ireland (AACI) is the European Acoustics Association’s (EAA’s) membership society for the Republic of Ireland, since late December 2020. This further strengthens and aligns the Republic of Ireland’s involvement with our European partners, allowing for the continued development of acoustics and acoustic research within the Republic. With the UK’s departure from the EU, the AACI Committee see the associate EAA membership as a strategic opportunity to progress the objectives of both the AACI and EAA within the Republic of Ireland and Europe.

The AACI seek to promote the objectives of the European Acoustics Association to promote and spread the science of acoustics, its technologies and applications throughout Europe and the entire world. The EAA seek to interface with associations whose activities are related to acoustics, in order to promote the development and progress of acoustics in its different aspects and applications.

While the AACI have strong industry-based links, it is proposed that the AACI will further strengthen links with Universities and Technical Institutes to ensure that acoustic research with the Republic of Ireland is closely aligned with the AACI and EAA.

The Committee of the AACI are delighted to embrace the objectives of the European Acoustics Association and are proud to be their membership society in the Republic of Ireland.

CCIBAM Course Clarification & SITRI Membership.

Members of the AACI have been formally advised that CCIBAM course is a technician level course and those who complete the CCIBAM course and become SITRI members are NOT necessarily qualified to give acoustic consultancy advice on sound insulation.

It would appear that the 4 day course does not go into any significant detail on wall constructions or diagnosis of failed tests, although these are touched on. The CCIBAM course is a technician-level course and does not qualify an individual for this level of design / remedial work, which would require a fully qualified, competent acoustic consultant.

IoA-Tech members found, presenting as qualified acoustic consultants and offering remedial design work should be brought to the attention of the Institute of Acoustics. This would contravene the rules of conduct regarding Professional Competence.

Extract from the Institute of Acoustics Rules of Conduct

A1. Professional competence and integrity

A1.1 Members shall avoid undertaking work which is beyond their capabilities.

For more information on Membership Grades, see the table below. It is important to note that ALL members of the AACI-SITS scheme are MIOA Corporate Members and all hold as a minimum a Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control from the Institute of Acoustics.

The figure below sets out the Institute of Acoustics membership grades for the purposes of clarity.
